We All Scream For... Wilhelm?

As you can see/hear, the "Wilhelm scream" is a sound effect used in countless movies and TV shows. Thanks to this little video compilation, and getting to hear it repeated over and over again, I can't help but feel like it's a bit on the spoofy side as far as sound effects go. But apparently the sound-bite is used with complete sincerity in all of these scenes. Now that it's been pointed out to us though, will it become more of a known cliche and therefore only usable in jest?
