Coming soon to a blog near you!

How pathetic am I? I didn't watch a single movie this week! I watched some Lost while we were in Miami, some Coupling after we got back. Our four flights were too short for movies to be shown, so we didn't even get anything on the plane. Now it's weekly reviews time, and I have nada! I could write reviews of Lost and Coupling, but I don't know. TV reviewing is just not my thing. I should write another list in my 80s series, but those take an unbelievable amount of time to write! I do have something else to talk about...

I am thinking of changing my format a bit for this blog. I am thinking of adopting a kind of schedule. You know, on certain days I write my lists, on certain days I write reviews, etc.. And I am probably going to add some how-to articles. I think more of the general public wants to be a bit more critical when they watch movies. You can hear it when people talk about movies. But most people don't know how. When I was searching a year or so ago for a book for my nephew on the topic, I found only one book (I forget what it was called) that really addressed the topic in an appropriate manner for the layperson. But it was riddled with inaccuracies; glossary terms used incorrectly, stuff like that. I started going through and writing corrections in ball-point pen. So my feeling is there isn't enough stuff out there yet on how to look at movies beyond surface level. Enter me! I am here to save the day!

So anyway, for those willing to participate, I will be bringing classes of sorts to the blog. I will write a little how-to, assign a movie to watch/consider with the how-to in mind, then have a discussion about the movie. Game?

Maybe that means I need to set up a syllabus or something so that you all know what movies we're talking about way in advance, and have a chance to put it in your Netflix queues, etc.. Hmmm...

Let me know if there are certain topics you are particularly interested in. We can talk about feminism, politics, racism, composition, camera movement, general symbolism. Just about anything. I will try to get this started on this in the next couple of weeks. May take me a bit to get it started though.

I think that's a cool idea. I think a week or two notice would be enough time to get it into the queue and watch it. Camera angles and composition are interesting topics to me. The others are too, but I figured I should pick a few anyway :).

It does sound like a cool idea, but the chance for me to actually see certain movies is slim - tv seems to keep falling near the bottom of our pile of accomplishments everyday. We were just talking about how we own DVDs we haven't seen yet - very frustrating.

However, I would still very much like to read the discussions, so count me in on that. And as for my confusion - what is cinematography, what do a best boy and key grip do and who decides what music goes where?

Those are my questions now, give me time and I will have more!
